Andy Murray played doubles with his brother Jamie on Thursday marking his farewell. During the folowing on-court interview, Andy had a hilarious moment when he talked about how he met his wife recaling a couple of weird episodes.
In 2005, during the US Open, Andy and Kim were both 18 years old. Fate brought them together in New York City. Kim’s father, a tennis coach, had connections in the tennis world, and it was at a restaurant that they first crossed paths. Over dinner, they shared stories, laughter, and perhaps a hint of nervousness. Murray said:
“We met for the first time when we were 18 years old. Kim’s dad is a tennis coach and we met over in New York and went out for dinner there at the US Open. I choked a little bit the first time we went out. We walked her home to her hotel and I asked her for her email address. I don’t think that’s a normal thing to do.”
Then he added a funny episode. The former World No. 1 remembered that when Sears watched him play in person for the first time at the US Open, he had a difficult match and puked twice—once on his opponent’s racquet bag and once in front of her. He said that even after his vomiting incident, he knew Kim was a “keeper” since she remained with him.
“The first match she came to watch me live was at the US Open. I actually vomited twice in that match. Once right in front of where she was sitting. I then stood up and vomited on my opponent’s racquet bag and she still seemed to like me so I knew she was a keeper after that,” he added.
