In her decisive victory over Elise Mertens, Emma Raducanu was propelled to the third round of Wimbledon, which added to her pleasant recollections.

Since suffering injuries, Raducanu has experienced an entire lifetime’s worth of events, many of them unpleasant. However, this year at the All England Club, she was smiling and seemed to be finally comfortable with her position in the sport.

She expressed her thoughts after the recent win and said: “I think I played some really good tennis today. I’m really pleased. I’m over the moon to be playing here and extend my stay by one more day. I’m so grateful to everyone for the support today. I’m so grateful and appreciative of everyone for making a lot of noise. I just have such amazing memories from that court. I think that match, in particular, was the first time playing on a court that size. The crowd, the environment, the feeling of adjusting at the start to just playing on a court that big.”

Raducanu followed Alcaraz on to court, and she said: “I had a lot of fun. I think that my character shows through my tennis when I play my best. I’m really pleased with that. Honestly, following Carlos, it was pretty cool to watch him play because he has the same sort of demeanour and just enjoyment of the sport. It’s just good to follow and watch.”
