Genie Bouchard was extremely close from losing against world no.125 Risa Osaki in the Indian Wells first round.
The Canadian Beauty wasn’t at her best because she was coming from the other side of the world after reaching the final in Kuala Lumpur. Eventually Genie had to survive 47 errors (!!!) to win 2-6 6-4 6-2.
Bouchard. I was off
Genie commented “I just kept fighting; I definitely felt a bit off. The conditions are different from where I’ve been. I traveled recently and just kind of adjusting to everything is definitely a bit tough. But I tried to put that aside and tried to play tennis, and somehow it worked out.”
Next vs. Stephens
Genie will play an in-form Sloane Stephens in the 2nd round. Head to head is 2-1 for Sloane that is the favorite to reach the 3rd round.
