Alex Zverev happy with a new mindset to play at Wimbledon

Despite his inability to settle in before the competition this year, Alexander Zverev seems to have made the necessary adjustments on the grass courts at the AELTC.

Although Alexander Zverev has never been at ease on the grass courts at the AELTC, he appears to have adjusted in time for the competition this year.

He easily defeated Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain, winning 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 on the top court. He expressed his satisfaction with the start of the season.

It has to be acknowledged that he wasn’t up against the best grass court players in Spain with his opponent. He was clearly used to clay court play as the German unleashed an inflow of forceful strokes and serves, breaking the unfortunate Spaniard five times, putting eighteen aces past him and blasting 46 winners past him.

He expressed his thoughts about it and said: “First rounds are never easy but I’m happy with the way I started the tournament. I’ve struggled over the years here on these beautiful courts, unfortunately. But I feel different this year; I feel very much more into it, very much more alive on these courts and hopefully, I will show that in the next few matches.”

He added: “I feel like it’s a much more open Wimbledon this year. I really do feel like if somebody catches two great weeks, they can do great things on these beautiful courts and obviously, I hope that, for once, it’s going to be me. I decided very early on in my career that I hated grass courts. And then for some reason this year, I decided that I loved them. That is the biggest change. Also, I feel like it’s a much more open Wimbledon this year. I really do feel like if somebody catches two great weeks, they can do great things on these beautiful courts and obviously, I hope that, for once, it’s going to be me.”
