Andy Murray withdrew from the Wimbledon men’s singles draw before his first-round match; therefore, he will not participate in the competition.

This would have been the final time the two-time SW19 winner competed, as he appears likely to retire this year.

But despite having surgery on a spinal cyst lately, the 37-year-old is still too injured to play Tomas Machac in their first-round matchup. Murray wants to be well enough to play with his brother Jamie in the men’s doubles.

In a statement, his management team said: “Unfortunately, despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his operation just over a week ago, Andy has taken the very difficult decision not to play the singles this year. As you can imagine, he is extremely disappointed but has confirmed that he will be playing in the doubles with Jamie.”

Murray’s dazzling career in the men’s singles at his home Slam, where he won storied titles in 2013 and 2016, comes to an unfortunate conclusion.
