Jannik Sinner: “Tennis in my mind is still a hobby”

Recently, Jannik Sinner said that he considers himself lucky to have turned tennis from a hobby into a full-time profession. Understanding fully the difficulties of turning professional, the Italian also shared his most and least favourite aspects of the game.

Jannik Sinner has stated that he feels fortunate to have made tennis his full-time career after starting it as a hobby. The Italian, who acknowledged the challenges of becoming a professional, also discussed his most and least favourite parts of the game.

For the first time, the world No. 1 seed goes into Wimbledon as the front-runner and is predicted to be a serious contender for the Slam. Sinner’s run in the sport has been nothing short of extraordinary since he won his maiden major in Australia. Sinner spoke at the media day held here in advance of the championships, which start in a few days.

Sinner stated that he values the sport above all else and does not take it for granted when discussing his favourite aspects of the Slam. Furthermore, he added that he saw no drawbacks to the sport.

He talked about it and said: “I am very lucky because I started tennis as a hobby and now it has become a job. In my mind, it is still a hobby. I love going out on the court and just playing. I think there are no negative things. I know how much I have sacrificed to be in the position I’m in. It’s always an honour to go out on the court. I think that’s one of the reasons why I love tennis, I don’t take anything for granted.”
