Stan Wawrinka had a rather harsh, but successful run at the recent French Open after he reached the quarters before losing in 4 sets to Roger Federer.

The Swiss sensation impressed for a couple of strong wins against Grigor Dimitrov and an epic 5-hours’ battle against an in-form Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Unfortunately, this run took its tool.

Wawrinka’s statement

Stan released the following statement

“It is with big regret that I need to announce that I won’t be able to play in Stuttgart this year. I’m still recovering from Roland Garros and sadly not ready yet to compete at the highest level due to fatigue after my long matches in Paris.

I was very much looking forward to coming back to Stuttgart as I have great memories from 2007 when I played my second ATP final at Weissenhof losing to Rafael Nadal. The club is amazing and so are the fans in Stuttgart. I hope to be back next year and look forward to seeing you all soon.”

Next step: the ATP500 at the Queen’s Club.
