Amanda Anisimova stunned the tennis community after she reached the final 4 of the French Open.
Ranked no.51, the 17-year-old from the US didn’t drop a set until losing in a rather interesting semifinal against Ashleigh Barty.
After a horrible start of the match, the teenager was 0-5 down in just 14 minutes. Then out of the blue, she stormed back to gain an incredible 7-6 3-0
lead. However, later on, she imploded to drop 6 consecutive games (7-6 3-6) before losing the semifinal (stats).Why Anisimova was happy
After the match, Amanda was in obvious distress, but after regrouping she admitted in the press conference that she needed to be satisfied with her run to comment
“It’s amazing, even though I’m obviously upset I lost because I’m always upset if I lose.
It’s disappointing. At the end of the day, I did make it to the semifinals for the first time. So, it’s a positive week for me.
I’m just going to try and be happy about the couple weeks, and hopefully today I’ll be a little bit happier than I am right now.”
Currently ranked no.51, the American will be the new world no.26 at the beginning of next week. At 17 years of is not a bad result. More to come.
