Ever since Emma Raducanu’s 2021 US Open victory, there has been an intention to lessen expectations around her; however, former British No. 1 Laura Robson thinks it’s time to change course.
With a strong showing in the Nottingham Open semifinals and an equally excellent run to the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 in Eastbourne, Raducanu is feeling optimistic going into Wimbledon.
Robson has been a strong advocate for Raducanu since her incredible victory at the US Open nearly three years ago. Having spent time with the 21-year-old British player while serving as the Tournament Director at the Rothesay Open Nottingham, Robson is certain that the positive momentum is turning back toward one of the most talked-about players in the game.
Robson expressed her remarks about Raducanu and said: “It’s great to see her looking excited to be back on the court and up for the challenge. I was super impressed with the way Emma and Katie Boulter played in Nottingham and we can be optimistic that both of them can do well at Wimbledon. They will both keep pushing each other along.”
She added: “Now I’m expecting Emma to have a good Wimbledon. She’s put the work in, been training on grass for quite a few weeks now and is looking ready for it. Looking at her levels, she is clearly playing well above her ranking. She is already right up there with the top players and that will be really nice for Emma to see. She will know she is not far off and is in a lot better place than she was six months ago. So if I had to pick out a player to watch at Wimbledon in the women’s draw, it would be Emma.”

WLWWLWWLLW Now ranked no.168, the Brit played her last match on the 27th of June when she capitulated to world no.14 Darya Kasatkina 6-2 6-2 in the quarter in Eastbourne (draw).
Currently, during this season Emma has managed to achieve an overall 13-9 win-loss record. Emma Raducanu’s best result of this season was getting to the semifinal in Nottingham.
Emma Raducanu will come up against the world no.22 Ekaterina Alexandrova in the 1st round. In the past, they have never competed against each other up to now on the main tour.
