The top seed Jannik Sinner and the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz have been placed in the same half of the Wimbledon draw and are expected to face each other in the semi-finals.

The Wimbledon draw has been announced, and among the top seeds in the men’s draw are some significant winners.

For the first time in his career, Sinner is the top seed at Wimbledon, but it hasn’t spared him from an incredibly difficult draw that will provide the Italian with a number of formidable obstacles. As he won the title in Halle last week, world No. 1 Sinner dispelled any doubts about his ability to excel on grass.

Before the French Open, there was much anxiety about a hip issue, which that tournament helped to test, but now he faces a greater challenge.

Sinner will take out German clay court expert Yannick Hanfmann in the opening round, but in what is sure to be an exciting encounter played on Center Court, he may go up against 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini in the second round.

Sinner has a 5-0 record against Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, but Griekspoor is a prospective opponent who won an ATP Tour grass-court title in Rosmalen last year. Round three might see Sinner take on Griekspoor.

In his half of the draw, Sinner also gets the big-serving Ben Shelton and Daniil Medvedev. The latter is a competitor who has historically caused Sinner serious problems. Sinner might face the reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals. If Sinner advances to face Alcaraz in the semifinals, he might get jaded. For any player, this draw might be too much to handle.
