Andy Murray revealed he resumed hitting tennis balls just four days after having spinal surgery; therefore, he would wait to decide whether to play at Wimbledon until the very last minute. Murray reports that his recovery from his spinal cyst surgery is going well, although he thinks he will probably not play singles at Wimbledon.
He expressed his thoughts in a recent discussion and said: “The rate at which I’m improving just now if that were to continue, then an extra 72 to 96 hours makes a huge difference. It’s complicated, and it’s made more complicated because I want to play at Wimbledon one more time. I am trying everything I can to play; I’m training on the court; I’m rehabbing; and I’m trying to accelerate this process to give myself a chance to play. It has been mentioned to me that you are going to withdraw before the draw at 10 am on Friday. And I’m like: ‘Well, no, I’m not. I’m going to wait until the last minute to see if I’m going to be able to and I’ve earned that right to do that.”
He added: “This is not a clear cut where I am 100% going to be ready to play or there is a 0% chance that I can play. That is the situation. I would say it’s probably more unlikely that I’m not able to play singles right now. I’m also f****** doing rehab 24/7 to try to give myself that opportunity to play there again.”
The two-time Wimbledon winner said he would have risked the danger of major health issues had he delayed having his spinal cyst operated on. He feels that playing doubles with his brother, Jamie, is more feasible.
Andy Murray says he feels he deserves the opportunity to play Wimbledon one last time & he’s doing everything possible to make it happen:
“I feel that I deserve the opportunity to give it until the very last moment to make that decision.”
