This edition of the Roland Garros has been heavily affected by the bad weather. The entire Wednesday of the second week was completely wiped out by the rain, and the organization of the French open had to make some adjustments.
However, many were surprised by the Friday scheduling as both semifinals of the women’s draw were scheduled on the outside courts and at the same time (11 am).
Therefore, the juicy match between Ashleigh Barty and Amanda Anisimova will be played on the Court Suzanne LENGLEN while Marketa Vondrousova vs. Johanna Konta will take place on Court Simonne MATHIEU.
The statement from Steve Simon
The WTA CEO released the following statement
“There’s no doubt that scheduling has been challenged by weather conditions and the WTA understands the scheduling issues presented at Roland Garros.
We are, however, extremely disappointed by the scheduling of both women’s semifinals on outside courts. This decision is unfair and inappropriate.
The four women who have played so well and made it this far have earned their right to play on the biggest stage. We believe other solutions were possible which would have been to the benefit of fans as well as all players.”
Why the scheduling
Usually, the women’s semifinals are played on Thursday, but the cancellation of all the match on Wednesday affected the scheduling and therefore everything had to be packed on Friday.
Since the tickets of the central court (Court Philippe CHATRIER) were already sold to the fans that were expected to see the men’s semifinals, the organization found it difficult to accommodate the women’s final 4 on the main court.
