Dominic Thiem defeated Karen Khachanov by 6-2 6-4 6-2 in 1 hour and 47 minutes on Court Suzanne-Lenglen.
This will be the fourth consecutive French Open semifinal for Thiem. The fourth-seeded will now play Djokovic in the semis for a berth in the finals of the tournament
The Match
In the first set, the Russian did well to save the opening game of the first set, but the Austrian got breaks in the 3rd and the 7th game to lead 5-2. The world no.4 won the set 6-2 in 33 minutes. The groundstroke pace and spin did the trick for Thiem to break the serve of his opponent.
In the second set, both the players did well to level at 4-4, but consecutive return errors from the 11th ranked helped Thiem get a break and win in the set by 6-4.
The third set was dominated by Thiem with breaks in the 5th
and the 7th game. The Austrian won the set 6-2.World no.4 on his progress in the tournament:
“I think every match I got better and better, first two opponents were very tough because they also didn’t give any rhythm, and they didn’t have anything to lose. So these were two very tough matches. From the third round on, it got a lot better. And for sure the match against Gael and also today was very good. I’m happy with the way I’m playing.”
“I’m now in the semi-finals for the fourth time,” said Thiem. “It’s incredibly difficult to win a Grand Slam, especially for us players who haven’t won one yet, because if everything goes quite normal, we have to beat two players with 15 or more Grand Slam [titles].
