Thiem, Tomic to play the Acapulco final

The new generation is finally coming.

Dominic Thiem (just turned 22) and Bernard Tomic (recently turned 23) will play for their first ATP500 title.

Thiem

Dominic is having an incredible run in Latin America to win Buenos Aires (he defeated Nadal in the semi), reach the semi in Rio (he defeated Ferrer in the quarters) and he is now in the final after breezing past Querrey 6-2 6-2.

Tomic

Bernard wins a rather “improbable match”. In the semi, the Australian was trashed in the first set against Dolgopolov (6-1) to find his way iand finally win the match 1-6 6-4 6-3.

After the match Bernard commented “I’ve played well in 250 events and in Grand Slams, but never in 500s. I’m very happy to be in a final now.”

This is the first time Thiem and Tomic play each other. Impossible to pick a favourite, probably Dominic has a bit more tennis in his racket right now.
