Rafael Nadal defeats Nishikori to set up the semifinal clash against Federer

Nadal eases past Nishikori in the quarterfinals

The world no.2 Rafael Nadal powered his way to his 12th semifinal of the French Open. He defeated Kei Nishikori by 6-1 6-1 6-3 in 1 hour and 50 minutes.

The Spaniard was too strong and the Japanese star had no answers in a rain-interrupted match on Court Philippe-Chatrier

The Match

In the first set, Nadal broke the very first serve of the Japanese to take a 2-0 lead. The Spaniard came very close of taking a 4-0 lead in the set which he ultimately won 6-1 after getting another break in the 6th game of the set. The first set lasted 34 minutes.

In the 2nd set, Nadal broke Nishikori 4 times to win the set 6-1. The Japanese did manage to break the world no.2 once in the set but it made no difference at all to the domination by the Spaniard.

The Japanese started well in the 3rd set but Nadal managed to save 4 break points on his serve and win the game. Nadal got a break in the 4th game and that was enough for him to win the set 6-3.

Nadal will now take on his longtime rival Roger Federer in the semifinals. Nadal can be considered a favourite as he has a 13-2 record on clay against the Swiss.
