Sharapova beat Wozniacki to clash with Radwanska in the final – 21012 WTA Sony Ericsson Miami – YouTube Video

Maria is on a roll. She is really determined to get back to the first spot in the WTA ranking. This time she has the little ‘advantage’ that her 2012 nemesis (Azarenka) is out of the tournament.

The match did not start well at all for Maria. In the first set she commmitted an incredible series of unforced errors when she was leading 4-1 to lose the opener 6-4. Then she tepped back to rule the court and to down Caroline 6-2 6-4 in the last 2 sets.

“I’m really pleased that after losing that first one, being up and playing really well and then backing off and her stepping up, I could have easily just went down in the second set,” Sharapova said. “But I really stepped it up again.  I went out there and started being aggressive.  I didn’t stop after I put myself in a good position. I’m extremely pleased that I pulled it out today.”

“I just kept fighting and just kept playing for every point,” Wozniacki said. “Maria started off really well and played aggressively.  She played some good tennis out there. I tried to do my best, and it just wasn’t enough today.  I was very close.  This is tennis.  One time you win; one time you lose.”

Maria won’t play Azarenka, but on the other side there is a very dangerous opponent: Radwanska. The Pole still has to lose a set in this tournament and she has been playing very well the beginning of the season.

It did not take much for Radwanska to win the match and to get an overall 7-0 lead over the Frenchwoman.

‘I’m just very happy that [I’ve played] my best tennis since the beginning of the year and [have won] a lot of great matches against top players,’ said Radwanska. ‘I’m still going to work hard and step by step, [try] to go even higher.’

Talking about Sharapova, Radwanska was quite respectul. ‘It’s always hard to play against her if she’s in good shape. It’s really tough,’ Radwanska said. ‘She’s really hitting the ball very hard and going for it since the beginning. I’m just going to try to also play aggressive and pretty much mix everything. We’ll see what is going to work.’
