Zverev beats Fognini in the French Open

Alexander Zverev is playing great tennis in the French Open. The 22-year-old German beat Fabio Fognini 3-6 6-2 6-2 7-6(5) in 2 hours and 55 minutes.

The Match

In the first set, Fognini got two breaks against the German and he utilised it well to win the set 6-3.

In the 2nd set, the German bounced back and broke his opponent’s serve twice and win the set easily by 6-2.

In the 3rd set, the German broke twice in the 4th and the 8th game to win the set 6-2.

In the fourth set, Zverev did well to come over the advantage of the Italian by erasing 2 break points he faced. He took full advantage of mini-break which Fognini provided in the tie-break with a double fault.

After the match, the world no.5 showed his happiness on reaching the quarterfinals of the tournament.

“To be in another quarter-final here is very special to me.”

The German will now face the world no.1 Djokovic in the quarterfinals. Zverev will gain confidence from the fact that he defeated the world no.1 in the 2018 Nitto ATP finals.
