Querrey wins the title in Delray Beach

Sam Querrey conquers his 8th career title after beating compatriot Rajeev Ram in the Delray Beach final.

The match was extremely tight with Querrey being broken the very first game of both sets. The drama unfolded in the breaker of the second set when Sam recovered a 2-5 deficit to save one set point (5-6) and win the tiebreak at 6. Eventually Querrey scored just 2 points more than Ram (73 vs 71).

Sam acknowledged that he didn’t play at his best (but who cares if you win the title?) to comment “We were both a little nervous today, it wasn’t the cleanest match. I just battled through and happened to hit one great shot in the second set, and it was on match point.”

After this title Querrey will climb 18 places in the rankings to be the new world no.43.
