Sinner Talks In Halle

While Jannik Sinner won his first grass court title on Sunday at the Halle Open, his girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya across the street in Berlin suffered a loss.

Sinner, who was pushed to three sets in his first three matches while competing in his maiden tournament as the world No. 1 seed, did not have an easy week getting to the ATP 500 event final.

But in the end, the Italian proved too strong on serve, defeating close friend Hubert Hurkacz 7-6(8), 7-6(2) to win his 14th singles title and solidify his place as a heavy favourite at Wimbledon.

Sinner also discussed Kalinskaya’s semifinal, having discovered the heartbreaking way Jessica Pegula defeated her in Berlin.

The 25-year-old, who is competing for her first professional title, had to wait until Sunday to learn that Pegula would be her opponent after the American wrapped up her semifinal triumph against Coco Gauff.

Sinner talked about it in an interview: “My girlfriend Anna played in Berlin today. She lost, with match points. So I’m very sorry for her. She also had an amazing week.”
