Schiavone wins the title in Rio!

The Lioness got another one!

At 35 years of age, Francesca Schiavone is definitely not done with tennis. It doesn’t matter if Francesca is now ranked 132 in the world, sheis always there up for a fight. The Italian has now won her 7th career title in Rio after recovering a 1 set down deficit in the final against Shelby Rogers.

In the final, things got extremely bad for Francesca in the very beginning after she lost 6 consecutive games to waste a 2-1 lead and find herself trailing 2-6 0-1 (1 break down). The Lioness found her way back in the match to win 4 consecutive games 2-6 4-1 and then grab the second set. In the decider, Francesca took off to win 4 consecutive games from a 2-all score-line. The final result was 2-6 6-2 6-2.

Schiavone. I feel very emotional

Even if this title is not really comparable with the clam Francesca won in Paris in 2010), the Italian was rather emotional also because she interrupted a 3 years’ draught (she won last title in 2013 in Fas). “I feel very emotional right now,” Francesca commented. “It was a very tough match, and I want to congratulate Rogers. She is a young player and she grew a lot in the circuit.”
