Sinner On Court

Jannik Sinner isn’t going to allow his recent popularity and accomplishments to alter who he is. This month, the 22-year-old tennis sensation became the world’s No. 1 player in the ATP rankings for the first time in his career.

The game with Tallon Griekspoor proved to be complex as usual; yet, Sinner emerged victorious against the Dutchman. Sinner advanced to the ATP 500 competition in Halle’s second round, where he will take against Fabian Marozsan.

Sinner said after his match with Tallon: “It was a pretty tough game. The matches against Tallon are always very difficult. It served well throughout the game, I was leading in the tie-break of the first set and then I made a couple of mistakes. A set on the grass can suddenly decide: mentally it is hard, but I tried to stay focused.”

Sinner added: “At the beginning, it is never easy on this surface, the movements are different. I try to be aggressive with the first shot and it can happen to be wrong sometimes. It was exciting to be back on the field and I’m happy to have achieved this level here in Halle. Spectacular dive on the break ball? It all started with that lucky answer because I knew I didn’t hit the ball well. You see less serve and volley or slice on all surfaces because the game is faster and you don’t have much time to prepare those shots. At Wimbledon, however, conditions are different and we might see more variety.”
