Jannik Sinner faced Tallon Griekspoor in his first match as the new ATP No. 1 and prevailed in a very close match after dropping the opening set in a tiebreak to advance to the Halle Open’s second round. The Italian player was questioned thoroughly after the match about his adjustment to grass court conditions, his personal life, including his relationship with tennis player Anna Kalinskaya, his family, and his feelings about becoming the new No. 1 in the world.

In addition, Sinner says he keeps a small circle of friends and family close to him and prefers healthy hobbies like playing cards with them, even though his recent impressive performances have made him one of the sport’s biggest names. Sinner made these revelations ahead of his preparations for Wimbledon next month.

He expressed his thoughts about it and said: “Me and my family, my people who I love and my friends, we are always the same. It’s just an achievement. Obviously, everyone is happy and I am very lucky that I can share these things with them. But otherwise, I’m the same person as I was one or two years ago. I just love to spend time with them doing something different, going go-karting or playing cards or whatever. That’s where I feel very good.”

He added: “I wake up with a goal, then I want to improve as a person and as a tennis player. In my mind I always want to work hard, it’s part of my work ethic and I think I have a positive mindset.”
