Jannik Sinner Talks Football Passion And Potential Text To Alcaraz

Tennis world number one Jannik Sinner has revealed his enthusiasm for football, mentioning he might message his rival Carlos Alcaraz if Italy beats Spain in their Euro 2024 group-stage match on Thursday.

“I played a little bit when I was young and I really loved the sport,” the 22-year-old shared with the ATP Tour’s website. “It’s great because you have teammates and you travel with the teammates and a lot of the families. We made some changes, so it’s going to be interesting. I had the honour to watch some preparation, practice matches, in Miami.”

Sinner expressed optimism about Italy’s performance, saying, “They played good, so hopefully we can start off very well. I think it’s important for the confidence level, so let’s see. It’s going to be exciting.”

However, Sinner prefers to watch matches in solitude. “I need my space to watch alone. Usually, when I care about something, I need my space,” he explained.

When asked if he would text Alcaraz if Italy wins, he initially said, “No, I will never do that,” before laughing and adding, “Maybe!”

Reflecting on the nature of team sports, Sinner noted, “It is a team sport, so if you are friends all together, it is a little bit easier to play.” Regarding Italy’s chances in the European championships, he said, “We have a very young team. It’s going to be very interesting to see.”
