In the 3rd set, Mayer managed to hold on his serve till the 4th game to level at 2-2, but he lost his 6th serve to give Federer 4-2 advantage. After this, Federer held on to his serve to win the set 6-3.

Federer did not lose even a single point in the match and outclassed the world no.68 in straight sets.

The Swiss won the game 6-2 6-3 6-3 in 1 hour and 42 minutes.

After the match, the world no.3 commented:

“Big serving, windy, it was tough conditions… I think when it’s this kind of conditions, it’s fast, it’s swirly, especially the one side, you have a lot of wind in your back. It’s like you’re serving from sort of a tree, from a mountain, and from the other one you feel like you’re playing up the hill, important it’s focused there and I did that well, and I’m very pleased with the game.”

The 37-year-old will now either face his close friend Stan Wawrinka or Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals.
