Federer easily beats Mayer to enter the quarterfinals in Paris

Federer at his best to reach the quarterfinals

Roger Federer wins his 4th round match against Leonardo Mayer to reach the quarterfinals in Paris.

Roger Federer at the moment is playing at his best and he looks to be a favourite to win the tournament.

Federer beat Mayer 6-2 6-3 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals of the French Open.

This is for the 12th time that the Swiss has made it to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

The Match:

In the first set, the world no.3 managed to break the very first serve of his opponent and that really helped him get the right momentum in the match. The Swiss again broke Mayer in the 5h game to lead 4-1 and then held on to his serve to win the set 6-2.

The second set was pretty similar to the first one where the Swiss broke in the 1st game and then in the 9th game to easily win the set 6-3.

In the 3rd set, Mayer managed to hold on his serve till the 4th game to level at 2-2, but he lost his 6th serve to give Federer 4-2 advantage. After this, Federer held on to his serve to win the set 6-3.

Federer did not lose even a single point in the match and outclassed the world no.68 in straight sets.

The Swiss won the game 6-2 6-3 6-3 in 1 hour and 42 minutes.

After the match, the world no.3 commented:

“Big serving, windy, it was tough conditions… I think when it’s this kind of conditions, it’s fast, it’s swirly, especially the one side, you have a lot of wind in your back. It’s like you’re serving from sort of a tree, from a mountain, and from the other one you feel like you’re playing up the hill, important it’s focused there and I did that well, and I’m very pleased with the game.”

The 37-year-old will now either face his close friend Stan Wawrinka or Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals.
