Novak Djokovic beat Salvatore Caruso in the 3rd round of the French Open.
The world no.1 played solid tennis to beat Italian qualifier Salvatore Caruso in his 3rd round match of the French Open.
The Serbian beat Caruso 6-3 6-3 6-2 in 2 hours and 4 minutes. This is for the 10th consecutive year that the top-seeded Serbian has made it to the 4th round of the tournament.
The Italian tried his best but it was too much for him to make a dent in the defenses of the top-ranked player. Caruso did manage to have 5 break opportunities against the Serb but was unable to convert, on the other hand, Djokovic utilized 5 of his 11 break chances. Another problem with the world no.147 was his inability to win points on his first serve.
The Match
In the first set, the world no.1 broke the Italian in the 4th game to lead 3-1. This was enough for the champion player to win the first set 6-3.
In the second set, Caruso did well to survive the onslaught by the Serbian but ultimately lost his serve in the 5th game (3-2). Djokovic got another break in the 9th game to win the second set 6-3.
3rd set was a breeze for the world no.1 as he broke Caruso twice to win the set 6-2.
24 consecutive wins at Slams… and counting?
