Dominic Thiem surprises everybody in Buenos Aires.
When Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer play an ATP250 on clay in Latin America you can’t think that they are the hot favorite to win that tournament. Well, this didn’t happen in Buenos Aires. Eventually it was Dominic Thiem to triumph after winning both the semi and final in the tiebreak of the 3rd set against huge clay court specialists such as Nadal (Thiem saved a match point with unbelievable forehand) and Almagro.
The final was a 2 hours and 28 minutes affair with Thiem managing to recover a 0-2 deficit in the decider. Match Stats.
Thiem. It’s the best title
Dominic was excited after winning the title because of the strong line-up “It’s the best of my titles so far because the tournament draw was so strong,” said Dominic. “You need a bit of luck to win these kinds of tournaments, but it’s probably been the best week of my career. You have to be aggressive against these great players. If you let them dictate, you’ll always be second best.”
This is Dominic’s 4th career title… it’s just the beginning.
