It had to happen… And it did.
Vika had an incredible winning streak in 2012… but she started to struggle a bit during the last few games. Before she had an epic win over Cibulkova where she was about to be trashed.
In the previous match Bartoli looked quite on the ball to sweepaway Kirilenko with a telling 6-1 6-2. And so this time Marion proved too strong for Vika.
‘I really went on court with a lot of belief in myself, and I stayed very focused at the end,’ said Bartoli. ‘I’m so happy.’
‘I think the main key for me was to step up on the court trying to win the match, not only thinking about how well she’s playing and everything, but really go on the court, having a game plan and try to go for my shots,’ said Bartoli. ‘It was a very demanding match on the fitness side. I think I had to really run a lot, especially from side to side. She’s playing extremely early and really put a lot of pressure on you. So I really had to work very hard into the points and stay tough physically. But at the end, I’m so happy I was able to do it.’
Marion had also the honour to win the hot shot of the day.
Azarenka demonstrated once again her new maturity and a very good perspective ‘I have to be proud of what I have done in the last couple of months,’ she said. ‘I am a human not a superwoman. I wish I could be, but I am not.’
Well Vika that was a good run…. And it seems it’s not over yet!!
