We all talk about Kyrgios, Kokkinakis or Coric, but sometimes we need to look a bit further. This is the message sent by American hope Taylor Fritz that will play his first ATP final in Memphis at 18 years of age.
Taylor took full advantage of a wild card granted by the organization to repay with a great tournament. The last act was his comeback against Berankis as the American managed to reverse a 1-set-down deficit after winning in 3 sets after 1 hour and 40 minutes (2-6 6-3 6-4).
This is Taylor’s (only) 3rd ATP tournament that he has played in his young career… a superb start.
Fritz. The best feeling in the world…
Taylor commented “It’s amazing to have this support. I feel so loved here. It’s the best feeling in the world. I owe a lot to the crowd pumping me up.”
… serving faster was the key
Then the American became more technical in his interview to comment “I honestly felt he was unbeatable in the first set. He was making me look awful. I didn’t think there was much I could do. I tried to change things up in my game. He was returning my serves and putting me on defense.
In the second set, I told myself that the way I was serving wasn’t going to cut it. I needed to crank it up a lot. I started hitting my serves 5-10 miles per hour faster. That was the biggest difference. Once I was holding my serve, it put pressure on him. That’s what allowed me to play my game more and allowed me to win.”
The final vs. Nishikori
Taylor will play the final against the King of Memphis, Kei Nishikori. The Japanese has won the last 3 editions in Memphis and he is definitely up for getting its 4 title. He should, unless…
