Emma Raducanu showcased an enhanced serve as she secured her maiden WTA Tour quarter-final on grass at the Rothesay Open in Nottingham. The former US Open champion’s formidable performance in challenging weather conditions saw her defeat Ukraine’s Daria Snigur 6-2, 6-2, bolstered by 11 crucial aces.

Reflecting on her achievement, Raducanu attributed her success to her improved serve, stating, “I’m very happy to have come through that match. It was a really tricky one in the conditions and I’m just very happy with how I dealt with all the circumstances.”

She emphasized the significance of her serve in overcoming tough opponents, remarking, “Especially what I’ve realised, playing the top opponents like Iga (Swiatek) or Aryna (Sabalenka), you need a first serve because they’re very comfortable holding serve.”

Despite initial challenges against Snigur, Raducanu’s resilience and strong serving enabled her to dominate the match, saving seven of eight break points faced. Despite battling illness during the match, Raducanu downplayed concerns, maintaining focus on her performance.

In summary, Raducanu’s strategic improvement in serving has proven pivotal in her quest for success on grass, marking a significant milestone in her burgeoning tennis career.
