Iga Swiatek, the top-ranked woman in tennis, visited the Eras Tour in Liverpool, England, last night. Following that, Swiatek shared an emotional selfie of herself holding a handwritten message on Taylor Swift’s letterhead.
Swift has shown her fondness for handwritten letters on multiple occasions, so this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a peek at her writings. She said earlier in 2014, in an interview: “I love writing thank-you notes. There’s something very nostalgic to me about the feel of a card and putting a pen to paper. How many times in our lives are we required to put pen to paper anymore? There’s something romantic and sort of lost about it. I like things you can touch and things you can keep because every bit of communication we have is ephemeral. You can just delete an email, and it’s like it was never there.”
Swiatek wrote: “Yes, I cried many times during the show. Yes, it was incredible. You are amazing, @taylorswift13.”
While most of the note is hidden in the envelope, it was written: “Iga, congratulations on. Open!!!”
Following her victory at the French Open this past weekend, Swiatek is taking a break before starting her Wimbledon preparations. She recently said: “I’m taking it day by day, step by step. I’m always focusing on my next task.”
I’m dead 🥺
