Jannik Sinner, the most recent world No. 1 in the ATP ranking, has thought back to his early years before making his way back to his origin. The Italian player also discussed his interaction with his family following his climb to the peak.
Sinner has won the Masters 1000 in Miami and Canada, along with the Australian Open, after finding newfound success in the latter part of the previous season. The Italian overcame Novak Djokovic to become the 29th person to reach the top of the tennis globe, thanks to his steady performances.
On June 10 in Monte-Carlo, a unique ceremony took place to present the 22-year-old with the ATP No. 1 title. He was questioned about his parents’ response to his rise to the top throughout the interview.
Before the ceremony, Sinner claimed to have spoken with his family, telling them that it was all a dream and that he would never have believed if someone had told him he would one day be the best player in the world. Still, he admitted that it felt great to say it out loud.
He expressed his thoughts about it and said: “I was talking with my family and talking about whether I would have become in that situation where I’m right now. I would say no, because it was only a dream and now that I’m World No. 1, it’s just amazing.”
Sinner claimed it felt great to watch them become emotional about his accomplishments, but he also said that he wanted to see how long he could stay at the top.
He added: “We were talking together and seeing them a little bit emotional and also from my side; it’s amazing. World No. 1 is the achievement I was looking for and obviously now I have to see how much I can stay there.”
