The underarm serve is widely considered as an excellent choice against players that tend to return far back on the court. Rafael Nadal was supremely upset after Nick Kyrgios tried the shot against him in Acapulco. However, Dominic Thiem showed no disdain about it after he was target by Alexander Bublik in the 2nd round of the French Open.
Why Thiem agrees with the use of the underarm serve
After his match against Bublik, Dominic admitted that he was expecting this kind of serve to comment
“To be honest, it’s a good choice against players like us who are that far behind the baseline. There is nothing bad about it. And, I mean, I was prepared for that, so that was no problem. Players like him or Kyrgios make it pretty well. I think he was 2/3 against me today”
