Alexander Zverev says he won’t discuss the claims that he abused his ex-girlfriend after their dispute was resolved out of court.
As a condition of the agreement revealed on Friday, Zverev had to pay 200,000 euros ($217,000), the majority of which would go into state funds and the remaining portion would go toward a fund for nonprofit organizations.
In October, the German player received a penalty of 450,000 euros in the same case. According to the court, he was charged with violently strangling Patea with both hands in May 2020.
The court stated that the alleged event happened in the stairway of her apartment building in the capital. It is reported that Patea experienced serious pain and difficulty breathing as a result of the attack. Zverev filed an appeal after rejecting the charges.
After a German court dismissed a case against him on Friday, Zverev declared he never wanted to hear another question on his trial regarding accusations of domestic abuse. Zverev reached his second Grand Slam final after defeating Casper Ruud in four sets.
He answered a reporter’s question in his post-match press conference and said: “I told you so from the start. I told everybody. I’m happy that it’s over. Yeah, nothing else to say. That’s it. Four years. I’m happy about that.”
Zverev further said: “That’s what dropping the case is. That is innocence. They’re not going to drop the case if you are guilty. I don’t know what translations you have, but that’s what it means. Done. We move on. I never want to hear another question about this subject again.”
