At the French Open, Carlos Alcaraz made a name for himself by making it to his first-ever final. Jannik Sinner was beaten 2–6–6-3–3-6–6-4–6-3 by the Spaniard.

That happened a year after Alcaraz had a difficult matchup with Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, where he was on the verge of victory when he began to cramp.

When Sinner’s cramps feared getting the better of him again, Alcaraz claimed that he had learned from his previous semi-final experience, which enabled him to persevere through five sets of tough play. Not only was the 21-year-old having difficulties on Friday, but Sinner also acknowledged that the tension was causing him to have cramps. And that was something Alcaraz noticed.

Alcaraz expressed his thoughts about it and said: “I saw that he was having a bit of a hard time; I had cramps and so did he in the third. We had to fight. I learned from last year’s match against Djokovic that I was in the same position as today, but I know that in those moments you have to be calm and continue because the cramps will go away.”

He added: “You have to be there fighting, trying to make shorter points. The third set was a little strange; the fourth and fifth were great matches, very good tennis. I am very happy for everything I have done today, waiting for my moment until the end, which I took.”
