Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will resume their intense rivalry in the semifinals of the French Open after the Spaniard defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6(3), 6-4, with a clinical display.

Alcaraz retained his composure throughout the tiebreak to prevent the Greek from mounting a mid-match comeback, dropping just three of his first-serve points in the opening set. On match point, he produced one of his incredible drop shots.

The Italian is playing at the peak of his abilities, and Alcaraz promises the Roland Garros fans that his encounter with Sinner will not disappoint. Alcaraz won their most recent encounter, a semifinal match at Indian Wells this year, and the two have an even career head-to-head record of 4-4.

Alcaraz recently expressed his thoughts about it: “It’s going to be a tough challenge for me. I’m ready to take on that challenge. It is the match that everybody wants to watch and I’m sure that he’s going to show his best tennis and myself as well. You have to run like a marathon, you know, side-to-side. Everything he does, he does perfectly. I think it is the hardest thing to face Jannik. At the same time, I love that. I love these kinds of matches.”

He added: “Well, probably a little bit more nervous before facing him. I’m not going to lie. I mean, he probably is one of the most difficult challenges that we can face in tennis right now. I think he’s the best player in the world. I think, no, he is No. 1 right now, so. When the draw came out, I think everybody wanted Jannik on my side playing the semifinal. Let’s see how it’s going to be, but I think it’s going to be great for tennis and the fans.”
