Coco Gauff faced a challenging atmosphere during her French Open quarterfinal match against Ons Jabeur, with the majority of the crowd at Stade Roland Garros’ Court Philippe Chatrier cheering for her opponent. Despite the lack of support, Gauff showcased her agility and determination, securing a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory over the Tunisian.

In the first set, Gauff struggled as Jabeur’s powerful and accurate serves proved difficult to counter. Jabeur won 17 out of 18 first-serve points, and the set concluded with a confident 114 mph (184 kph) ace from Jabeur. However, Gauff, known for her resilience, increased her aggression in the second set while Jabeur’s performance dipped. Gauff hit 16 winners across the second and third sets, ultimately securing her win despite a brief resurgence from Jabeur in the third set.

During her post-match interview with Alex Corretja, Gauff expressed gratitude towards the crowd, despite their support for Jabeur. “Yeah, she’s [Jabeur] a tough opponent. She’s well-loved on tour. I could tell by the crowd today, you guys wanted her to win, but honestly when she’s playing her I cheer for her,” Gauff said.

Gauff also shared a light-hearted moment from the match, revealing that she found the experience enjoyable despite the crowd’s hostility. “Thank you for making it a good atmosphere. The people made it really fun for me. I like playing in environments like this. Even though you guys were for Ons, I had a lot of fun. Even when I lost the first set and they were chanting.. When I was in the bathroom I was just like ‘this is really fun, win or lose’,” Gauff added.

Her ability to stay positive and find humor in a challenging situation highlights Gauff’s maturity and mental strength, contributing to her continued success on the tennis court.
