Carlos Alcaraz has denied Stefanos Tsitsipas’s allegations that he grunted longer than usual during their quarterfinal encounter at Roland Garros, despite the opinion of several tennis experts that his grunting was a little longer than usual.

With a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 victory over Tsitsipas, Alcaraz once again showed his dominance and set up a matchup with Jannik Sinner in the French Open semi-finals.

Tsitsipas, who ended up 0-6 in his head-to-head match against the Spaniard, had another unpleasant confrontation. His frustrations reached the breaking point when he played a few faulty strokes, argued with his coaching staff, and complained to the chair umpire over his opponent’s prolonged grunting.

The Greek player rushed to the official to explain himself after losing the second set tiebreaker, 1-6.

Tsitsipas said to the umpire: “There is an extended grunt. Maybe without the grunt when I hit. When I hit the shot, the grunt is extended. When I am about to hit the shot, I can hear his grunt. It’s like a millisecond before I hit the shot. I never complain about this but it’s frustrating. When I’m about to hit the shot and moments before I hit the shot, I still hear the grunt. It’s not during the shot; it’s right before.”

Alcaraz emphasized that he didn’t go overboard with his grunting and said: “I heard his complaints about me dragging out my screams too long during the tie-break court exchange. He is free to think about what he wants, but I can say that I didn’t make it longer than normal and that I didn’t mean to bother him.”
