With a tough 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory against Russian Pavel Kotov on Friday, Jannik Sinner cruised into the French Open fourth round. However, he acknowledged that he still needed to work on his training after a recent hip injury delayed his preparations.
After winning the Australian Open, Sinner made it ten straight majors this year by winning a one-sided match while sporting a long-sleeve undershirt on another chilly day.
The Italian took the lead in the second set due to another early break, and he repeated the sequence in the third set to seal the win with an ace on match point.
Sinner talked about the conditions at the French Open and said: “I’m happy to have advanced to the next round; it was a tough match, and he’s a very good player. We played each other recently and a couple of things have changed. Tennis-wise, I felt good on the court. Physically, I have to, and I still need to improve a couple of aspects. It’s important to rest, especially on Saturday. I will prepare myself to be ready for the next round. It’s a very physical situation. I try to accept the difficult moments and always see the positive side.”
