Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova are too good for their opponents to sail to the 3rd round without any problem.

Serena

The world no.1 demolishes Su-Wei Hsieh 6-1 6-1 in 60 minutes. Serena commented “It was a good match-up for me to play someone who can hit any shot at any time, and anywhere on the court. I kind of needed that; there’ve been some things I worked on over the off-season, so it worked out for me today.”

The American will have a comfortable (on paper) 3rd round against world no.69 Darya Kasaktina. This is the first time they play each other.

Sharapova

Maria had a good performance against world no. 105 Aliaksandra Sasnovich to win 6-2 6-1 in 71 minutes. Talking about the weather conditions, Maria commented “That’s what we have to expect in Melbourne, and that’s one of the toughest challenges of this tournament. The weather changes; one day it’s over 40 degrees Celcius, another day you need a parka! Overall, I’m just happy that I could get the match in because I know many players are waiting for the rain to stop.”

Maria will face Lauren Davis in the next round. They have never played each other.
