Holger Rune explained how he overcame a tight tiebreak to secure his spot in the third round at Roland-Garros by finding his inner strength. The Dane defeated Flavio Cobolli in a hard five-setter, winning 6-4, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(6), including a tiebreak at the end.
As a reward, he will face Slovakian Jozef Kovalik in the third round on Saturday. Rune acknowledges that he was unprepared for Cobolli’s comeback.
Rune expressed his thoughts after the match and said: “I hoped it would be just another day in the office. A calm game, where the first two sets were played in just over an hour. I played some good sets. They were not handed to me; I played well. Then he started playing well and the fifth set was completely crazy. Behind 40-0 on my serve at 4-4, the crowd helped me; it’s an amazing atmosphere on Court 14. He’s playing some of the best tennis I’ve seen him play in my life. It was a fantastic match to play and winning it is the best feeling.”
Rune shared a special message for Cobolli after a crazy match and wrote on X: “It was a crazy match yesterday. I love the atmosphere here at @rolandgarros. Flávio, you are an amazing player. You always were! We will have many great matches in the future, that’s for sure, @cobollifla.”
