Federer shines in Melbourne

Roger Federer had a great start at the Australian Open to concede just 5 games to Nikoloz Basilashvili. The Swiss Maestro dismissed the Georgian 6-2 6-1 6-2 in just 72 minutes. The only “awkward moment” for the Maestro was when he dropped a service game in the opening set when he was already 4-1 and 2 breaks up. Besides that, it was a nice “tennis lesson”.

Federer: Finally I was able to focus

Roger commented “That was a good match. I’m really pleased how I was able to play. Definitely gives me a bit of a lift in confidence because this year I haven’t been able to play properly yet. I had some decent matches in Brisbane, but it was all under a cloud knowing that I wasn’t 100 per cent.

But this was a match where I was able to focus on my game, on tactics, all that stuff. So it was nice to play that way.”

Next vs Dolgopolov

Roger will play a dangerous Dolgopolov in the second round. Head to head is 2-0 for Roger that has never conceded a set to Alexandr.
