It was tough living in America. NISHIKORI

Kei Nishikori had to do many tough things in order to reach his dream of being at the top in tennis, the toughest was probably going to the US.

Kei moved to Florida when he was 14-year-old to train in the prestigious academy of Nick Bollettieri. Eventually that paid off, but it wasn’t really easy for the Japanese especially at the beginning.

Nishikori. I couldn’t communicate with anybody

Kei remembers that “It was really tough, especially first couple years. I couldn’t communicate with anybody. Even on the court, they were doing some drills. I couldn’t understand anything. But after I think two, three years I got little bit confidence to speak English. Yeah, maybe the culture is really different from Japan to the US. I had some tough times there, too.

I went to US for tennis, so I was practising all day. I couldn’t really study much. That’s why it was a tough first couple of years.”

Kei has won 10 tournaments so far and he was the runner-up in 5 events. The Japanese has reached a the final at the US Open in 2014 and he is definitely aiming at winning his first major this year.

Game on.

NOT ALWAYS EASY…
