Osaka struggles in the 1st round match

Naomi Osaka beats Anna Schmiedlova in the first round of the French Open.

Osaka had a tough match against Schmiedlova and survived an exit scare in her first round match of the French Open. Osaka is looking forward to her third successive Grand Slam title.

The Match

The Japanese world no.1 could manage only nine points in the 1st set and she lost it 6-0.

In the second set, Osaka was leading 3-0 but after that, she was broken thrice by the world no.90 player from Slovakia. The set was decided in the tie-breaker in favor of Osaka 7-6(4) after Schmiedlova had the chance to serve out the match twice.

After the tiebreak game in the second set, she was back in her own and played some brilliant tennis to win the set 6-1.

Osaka beat Schmiedlova 0-6 7-6 6-1 in 1 hour 54 minutes.

After the match the 90th-ranked Schmiedlova commented:

“I can see that I can play against everyone — and she’s also just a human, and that I could beat her, definitely.”

Clay has never been the favourite surface for Osaka, though lately, her performance on clay has improved and she claims that she was more comfortable playing on clay now.

JUST SURVIVED!
