Coco Gauff was emotionally overcome as she heard Rafael Nadal’s farewell address at the 2024 French Open, just like the entire tennis community. Considering the likelihood that this would be his final match, the 22-time Grand Slam champion proudly left the court. On the matter, the 20-year-old recently revealed that he saw the Spaniard walking out without feeling any emotional distress.

The young American player is prepared to go on after overcoming Julia Avdeeva in the event’s opening round, but she was also devastated to see Nadal say goodbye to Roland Garros. She went on to say that it was not an easy time for her, having witnessed the 37-year-old tennis player dominate the court.

Gauff expressed her feelings about it in a recent interview and said: “I think, well for me, if I didn’t have to play, I would have probably been there. I saw Serena’s one of her last matches and then, uh, the goal was to see Rafa’s but they put me in at the same time. I was watching it like in the press room but like in an office and we were watching the speech. Luckily, he didn’t cry. I think if he had cried, I would have cried. I was getting a little bit emotional because it’s like literally all I’ve ever known my whole life is him winning here.”
