Defending champion Petra Kvitova had to withdraw from Sydney after retiring in Shenzhen. The cause is the same: a gastrointestinal illness.
Petra confirmed her retirement on Twitter “So disappointed not to defend my title at this special tournament. I will be back!”
Petra would have been seeded no.3 and she was meant to play Sabine Lisicki.
