Serena Williams back to business to defeat Zheng in straight sets – 2012 WTA Sony Ericsson

Another Williams is back to business. After Venus also Serena hits (hard) the court and it took only 80minutes to get to the next round.

“It definitely came on,” Williams said. “I got a little frustrated, but not too much, you know.  I think my frustration is more like a motivation frustration, so it helps me to get motivated.”

Stosur had an easy one with qualifier Savinyk in barely a hour (6-4 6-0). Clijsters defeated Julia Goerges in 2 difficult sets 6-2 7-5.

“It is tough, especially  –  in a way I was happy that I was able to play that first round, you know, that I don’t quite have that bye off, like that first round off, so that gives me a little bit of rhythm    a little bit of a lower ranked player where I can just get used to playing outdoors again, get used to the weather conditions,” said Kim. “You know, there was an improvement in my second round to my first round, and I had to.  You know, Julia is a good player and I knew stepping out on court today that I’m gonna have to play a better type of tennis.”.

Wozniacki easy on Strycov (6-4 6-0). Sharapova had a tough one with  Peer to eventually 4-6 6-3 6-3 in 2 hours and 24 minutes. “She’s a pretty tough opponent, especially for a first round, someone that you usually see being a seed in these types of events,” said Maria. “In the beginning, I was a bit sluggish. I didn’t feel like I was moving my feet very well and she was controlling most of the points. And also not serving very [well] in the first set. So I think trying to be a bit more consistent was pretty much my game plan going into the next two sets.”

Jelena Jankovic keeps on ‘not-impressing any more’ to fall in 1 hour 6-0 6-3 at the hand of Barthel.
