Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the qualifying rounds of the 2024 French Open. This decision follows closely on the heels of her being denied a wild card entry into the tournament’s main draw.
On Tuesday, May 14, it was revealed that Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, had not received a wild card entry into the women’s main draw at this year’s French Open. With the latest round of withdrawals, Raducanu is currently three spots away from reaching the main draw through the alternates list. Without a spot, she would have been required to compete in the qualifying rounds. However, a recent document shared by the French Open organizers showed that Raducanu’s name, which was listed under ‘Qualifying Draw,’ had been removed. The Brit has not yet confirmed the reason for her withdrawal.
Meanwhile, several French players, including Alize Cornet, Fiona Ferro, Elsa Jacquemot, Kristina Mladenovic, Chloe Paquet, and Jessika Ponchet, have received wild card entries into the women’s singles main draw. In addition, Australian Ajla Tomljanovic and American Sachia Vickery have also secured spots in the main draw through wild card entries.
Raducanu’s withdrawal adds another layer of complexity to her ongoing efforts to regain her form and standing in the tennis world. Her absence from the French Open will be keenly felt by fans and followers of her career.
