Nicolas Jarry Pumped Up

In a thrilling match on Friday at the Foro Italico, Nicolas Jarry defeated Tommy Paul 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-3 to go to his first Masters 1000 final.

The Chilean took a 2-0 and 4-2 lead before Paul mounted an incredible comeback, but Jarry bounced back to win the third set and retained his composure to seal the thrilling victory on his fifth match point.

Jarry expressed his feelings after the win and said: “I was pleased with how I came back with my aggressive tennis in the third set. To finish the match is never easy, but I made it through and it’s an amazing feeling.”

He added: “It’s in those moments that I play my best tennis. That’s when I got for it and if it goes in, amazing; if it doesn’t, then you give it up. I try to be like that throughout the whole match. It’s difficult to maintain that level constantly, but I’m in the final, so.”

Next up for Jarry is the German Alexander Zverev. In the footsteps of Marcelo Rios and Fernando Gonzalez, he is the third Chilean to ever make it to the Rome final. He is expected to be ranked at least as high as his career, at No. 17.
