Rafael Nadal’s uncle Toni claims that his nephew will play in the 2024 French Open in an attempt to win the tournament and avoid his early departure. Nadal is gearing up for his 19th tournament but many are doubtful about his chances of winning the French Open.

Nadal has been playing all season on clay courts. After playing at Barcelona, he went on to play in Madrid and Italy. The Spaniard has struggled with injuries for the majority of his career, so it was uncertain if he would participate in each event.

The Spaniard was sent farewell after losing to Jiri Lehecka in the Madrid Round of 16. His most recent victory occurred in Italy, where he defeated Zizou Bergs in the first round but fell short against Hubert Hurkacz in the second.

It’s the French Open next. As the Grand Slam champion a record 14 times, Nadal intends to travel to Paris for the competition. According to his uncle Toni, the 22-time Grand Slam champion is self-assured and won’t enter the French Open to lose in the second round.

Toni expressed his thoughts about Rafa and said: “He is not going to drag himself down; he remains confident because of his mentality and way of being. He will not go to Roland Garros to lose in the second round, only if he believes he can win the tournament. His dream ending would be to win Roland Garros and retire, but I think if he does, he will want to continue. He won’t retire.”

Toni added about Rafa’s campaign for the 2022 Australian Open: “He had had Covid-19 three days before travelling, but then he tested negative and still did not know whether to travel. In the end, he decided to go, started with little preparation, and won the tournament.”
