Sabalenka Wins In Rome

Aryna Sabalenka secured her place in her maiden Italian Open final with a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Danielle Collins just before midnight on Thursday.

Sabalenka is now 6-0 versus Collins after winning in the semifinals in one hour and twenty-three minutes. Two-time Madrid Open champion Sabalenka is one victory away from winning the other WTA 1000 clay-court competition.

In a rematch of the thrilling Madrid Open title match that she lost in a final set tiebreak earlier this month, Sabalenka will take on world No. 1 and four-time Grand Slam winner Swiatek.

Sabalenkab expressed her thoughts about facing Swiatek in the final in Rome and said: “Definitely. I like our tough battles. It’s always close matches. I enjoy playing against her. It’s always high-level tennis. Hopefully, we bring our best tennis, and you will enjoy watching us play. Hopefully, this time I’m going to get this title with your support, guys.”

She added: “I think the level is there, the tennis is there, and I got everything to get this win. I just have to focus on myself, I guess, and not rush things; wait for the right shot to finish the point.”
